The Dhaka Times Desk Bangladesh has called on the UN Security Council to pass a resolution against Israel's occupation of Palestinian land and the establishment of illegal settlements.
According to BASS news, the permanent representative of Bangladesh, Masud bin Momen, made this call in an open debate of the Security Council last Wednesday.
Citing continued Israeli settlements as the biggest obstacle to the Middle East peace process, the representative of Bangladesh called for finding a peaceful, just and sustainable solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Masoud bin Momen urged the international community to pressure Israel to stop violating international law in Palestine.
Masoud bin Momen reiterated support for the establishment of the rights of the Palestinian people and their legitimate aspirations to establish an independent state. He called on the international community to encourage Israel to comply with international human rights law in the occupied territories.
The representative of Bangladesh, Masood Bin Momen, also expressed deep concern about the plight of two million Palestinians due to the ten-year-long blockade of the Gaza Strip.
Massoud bin Momen reiterated Bangladesh's support for the proposal to declare 2017 as the 'International Year of Ending the Occupation' to mark the 50th anniversary of the Israeli occupation of Palestine at the Security Council meeting, according to media reports.
