The Dhaka Times Desk good morning Friday, November 18, 2016 AD, 4 Agrahayan 1423 Bingabd, 17 Safar 1438 Hijri. Good morning everyone from The Dhaka Times. Happy birthday to all those whose birthday is today - happy birthday.
Darya Khan Mosque is the largest domed mosque in Bangladesh. It is a historical mosque.
But due to lack of maintenance, curious tourists coming to Bagerhat to see the feats of Hazrat Khanjahan (RA) will not find it very easily.
Darya Khan, one of the closest companions of Hazrat Khan Jahan (RA), this mosque is a forgotten name today. The mosque is now known as 'Ranbijaipur One Dome Mosque' by the local villagers and even in the documents of the Directorate of Archaeology.
This mosque is one of the largest single-domed mosques of the Muslim era preserved in Bangladesh.
UNESCO has declared all the structures of the Khan Jahan period in the ancient mosque city of Bagerhat as 'World Heritage'. Darya Khan Mosque is also a part of this world heritage. Just as the world heritage recognition has been undermined by the careless change of name, the existence of this precious historical structure is threatened today due to lack of proper care and maintenance. We believe that the government will restore the name of this mosque and maintain its heritage.
