The Dhaka Times Desk The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatened to leave the United Nations because of the resolution passed at the United Nations on illegal settlements!
International media BBC and Reuters reported that Israel is reconsidering its relations with the United Nations, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said. It is assumed that Israel may cut all ties with the United Nations.
Netanyahu issued the warning after the United Nations Security Council passed a resolution condemning Israeli settlements in the West Bank and halting the process. In a departure from its past position, the United States refrained from vetoing the resolution on Friday.
Netanyahu called the Security Council's decision "biased" and "shameful," saying, "It will take time, but the proposal will be rejected."
He said, "Within the next month, I have instructed the foreign minister to look into the issues of re-examining all types of relations, apart from Israel's funding and current representatives in various UN organizations."
Egypt was previously scheduled to vote on the proposal on Thursday. However, when the newly elected US President Trump called, Egypt backed out at the last minute.
Meanwhile, co-proposers New Zealand, Malaysia, Venezuela and Senegal remain adamant in raising the proposal. Later last Friday, 14 of the 15 members of the Security Council voted in favor of the resolution. The United States, on the other hand, abstained from voting. That is why the UN Security Council adopted a resolution on Israel and Palestine issue for the first time in the last 8 years.
It should be noted that newly elected US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu urged the Obama administration to veto this proposal. The United States vetoed such a proposal in 2011. But this time because it is not the United States and the United Nations, the Israeli Prime Minister is very angry!
