All Mba Goto can remember is that he was born on a New Year's Eve; That's what his parents told him. Keeping this 'myth' in mind, Mba Goto's birthday is celebrated this year like every year. His family claims he is now 146 years old.

According to the 2010 Indonesian census, Mba Goto's age was officially recorded as 142 years old. That puts him at 148 now. But the family says he is 146 years old. Although unable to remember his birthday, Mba Goto still vividly remembers the day he built a sugar factory.

He said that the last of his 4 wives died in 1988. Since then his life is lonely. But his love for life is still intact. Even if he wants to leave life, life binds him, just like an anchor binds a boat. When he was 122 years old, all the illusions were removed from life. But Mba Goto could not embrace death yet. What is the secret of longevity? "Patience is the only strategy for his longevity," said Mba Goto in a half-hearted tone when asked.
