The Dhaka Times Desk good morning Tuesday, 7 March 2017 Christ, 23 Falgun 1423 Bangabd, 7 Jamadius Sani 1438 Hijri. Good morning everyone from The Dhaka Times. Happy birthday to all those whose birthday is today - happy birthday.

Today is the historic 7th of March. On this day in 1971, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman delivered a historic speech at the Race Course Maidan (now Suhrawardy Park).
Bangabandhu's 7th March speech was basically the beginning of the 1971 freedom struggle. Bangabandhu called for independence that day at the race course ground. He said in his historic speech that day, 'If I cannot give you orders, jump with whatever you have. To confront the enemies.' He also said that day, when I have given blood, I will give more blood, I will free the people of this country, God willing. In the end, he gave freedom and said, 'This time's struggle is the struggle for freedom, this time's struggle is the struggle for freedom.' Basically, after that speech, the entire Bengali nation got excited and jumped into the freedom struggle of the great seventy-one years. As a result of which independence was declared on 26th March and the country was freed from enemies on 16th December and stood tall in the world court as an independent sovereign state.
So today this historic 7th March is remembered by the nation with respect. This day is a very significant day in the history of Bangladesh.
