Invention of fuel oil from polyethylene waste!

The Dhaka Times Desk Polythene waste is a major cause of pollution in our environment. This evil is disrupting our way of life. But this time a new research will help to create that pollution free environment. The invention is that fuel oil will be produced from polyethylene waste.

Polythene is one of the materials scattered around us. However, it has been reported that it is possible to produce fuel oil very cheaply from this polyethylene waste. This technology was invented by 25-year-old Touhidul Islam from Kuchjhagarh area of Jamalpur Sadar Upazila.

In this new technology, fuel oil will be made from polyethylene waste. The cost per liter of oil production is only 70 paise to two taka! The ink that comes out after the oil is released can also be used as photocopier ink!

This technology invented by Touhidul Islam is being displayed in the departmental digital innovation fair at the gymnasium of Mymensingh city. The fair has been organized for three days from March 11 at the Mymensingh Divisional Commissioner's office. Although there were many innovations at the fair, the issue of extracting fuel oil from polyethylene waste caught everyone's attention. However, officials of the Department of Environment say that more tests should be done to see if this technology is harmful to the environment or not.

Tauhidul Islam said that he became interested in this subject while studying biocomposites in higher secondary school in 2009. He also passed the laboratory test that year. The next year he won the prize at the science fair. After 5/6 years researched the subject better. In 2015, he was also successful in commercial production.

Tauhidul Islam also said that his machine is basically a chamber like a big bucket. Where polythene filling is covered with an iron cover. Then the heat of the fire is given. After the polythene melts and vaporizes, the oil comes out after passing through three pipe segments of 2 feet by 2 feet and 6 feet in length. Basically the temperature depends on what kind of oil it will be. When heated at a temperature of 120 degrees Celsius, petrol-like oil is released from it. If it is heated twice as much, it produces diesel oil and if it is heated to a higher level, kerosene oil comes out. Half the amount of oil can be extracted from 1000 kg of polyethylene. It costs between 70 paise and two rupees per litre. Heat for about 40 minutes. It takes about three hours to extract all the oil.

Inventor Tauhidul Islam also told the media that he has been using this oil for three years. Motorcycles are also running with this oil. He doesn't have a very good machine. The machine used at home is worth lakhs of taka. If he could build a machine for 7.5 lakh rupees, he would be able to extract about 1000 kg of oil from at least 2000 kg of polythene per day. He is not able to buy good machines as the economic condition is not good. He feels that this technology can be used in both public and private sectors. That's why everyone should come forward.
