We all know that mango is the most popular fruit of Bangladesh. Mango is called the 'King of Fruits' because of its taste, aroma, nutritional value and variety of uses. But since this fruit is delicious and sweet, diabetic patients often feel uncomfortable eating it. But this time Diabetic Mango (Bau Mango-3) has been invented for diabetic patients to solve that problem.
Discovered Diabetic Mango is delicious, sweet, colour, juice, pulpless and aromatic, visually pleasing and attractive. The director of the Germplasm Center of the Agricultural University of our country and the Professor of the Department of Horticulture have shown success in inventing this novel variety. Abdur Rahim.
After 16 years of research, he invented this Diabetic Mango or Bau Mango-3. The glucose level in this mango is lower than normal due to which it is very beneficial for diabetic patients. Bakribi Germplasm Center has already started supplying mango seedlings of this variety across the country.
Inventor about diabetic mango. Rahim said, this variety of mango is regular fruiting and dwarf in nature. The tree bears flowers and fruit twice a year. Ripe fruits of this variety are available at the end of June. It takes 5 to 5 and a half months from flowering to fruit maturity. Mango size is medium and long in nature. That is why the amount of juice is less. However, the fiber content is high. The skin is thin and the peel of this mango is easily spreadable. The average weight of this mango is 289 grams. A yield of 10-15 tonnes per hectare is possible.
Inventor Dr. Rahim said, the research showed the chemical characteristics of diabetic Bau mango, the length of the fruit of this variety is 11.20 cm, width-7.37 cm. And thickness-6.47 cm. The edible portion is 73.96 percent of the total fruit. Humidity- 81.44%; Dry matter- 18.56%; pH value- 3.99; Tritable acidity- 0.45%; Oxidized sugar- 10.68%, oxidized sugar- 2.79% and total- 13.47%; Ratio of sugar and ACDT-29.76; TSS-20.33%.
Inventor Dr. Rahim said, the number of diabetic patients is increasing gradually in our country. Many patients want to eat large amounts of mango but cannot. As this mango has less sugar level than other mangoes, it is very beneficial for diabetic patients. He thinks that Diabetic Bau Am-3 will enable those patients to eat to their heart's content.
