WeChat is banned in Russia!

The Dhaka Times Desk Russia bans Chinese messaging app WeChat This information was reported by the Russian state news agency TASS.

Moscow's communications regulator recently added WeChat to its list of banned websites in Russia, Tass reported. WeChat failed to comply with the necessary legal steps required to register with government authorities in Russia as an online messaging service.

China's largest technology company Tencent's messaging app WeChat has about 900 million active users, most of them in China.

According to Taser's report, this WeChat was recently blacklisted. Tencent said in a statement that it is discussing the situation with the appropriate authorities in Russia.

A recent analysis by New America, a Washington-based think tank, said Russian authorities are increasingly viewing the Internet as a serious political threat and are trying to follow China's model in imposing Internet controls.

It should be noted that Russia passed a law in 2015 to save the information of citizens of its own country so that it does not go to other countries. That law is very similar to the law passed in China.
