The Dhaka Times Desk How life originated on earth How life was created is a mystery nature has hidden within itself for billions of years. In 2011, a 2.1 billion-year-old meteorite was found in the Sahara desert in Morocco. A team of scientists recently found water in Canada that is at least 1.5 billion years old. Anciently this water was trapped inside the rocks. Scientists believe that the secrets of creation and the origin of multicellular organisms can be learned from microbes in billions of years old water.
microbes It is the primitive state of life. It is a cell. Microbes around us are invisible to the naked eye. Must be seen with a powerful microscope. Fossil microbes are very important to scientists. Primitive microbes or fossil microbes have many roles to play in understanding what modern evolved microbes looked like at the beginning of their creation. Scientists strongly believe that these primitive microbes can be found in water billions of years old.
A team of British and Canadian scientists is investigating the whole matter. Greg Holland, a geochemist at the University of Lanchester in England, and his colleagues first noticed the fluid coming out of a mine in Timmins. At first they wondered how the water got inside the rock. Later they were interested to know how old the water trapped in the rock is. Water samples are collected by drilling and cutting rocks. Nuclear radioactivity tests show that the accumulated water is between 1.5 – 2.67 billion years old. According to Holland, 2.7 billion years ago Timmins was geologically completely different. At that time the tectonic plates were spreading apart from each other under the prehistoric seas. The molten magma was cooling and turning into new rock. As the rock cools, cracks remain inside as the rock stabilizes under ambient pressure. Holland added, the water we were able to collect is actually the water of that ancient sea. The hydrogen content in the collected sample water is high. This ancient water is very important for research. Human evolution is thought to have known much about unicellular organisms long before the arrival of multicellular organisms.
