The Dhaka Times Desk Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, the second son of ousted Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, has been released under a state amnesty.

According to BBC news, Saif has been imprisoned for the past 6 years on the charge that his activities could create instability in the country. He was the successor to the power of Muammar Gaddafi. Saif was imprisoned under a militia in the Libyan city of Zintan.
It is known that Saif was released on Friday. But till now he has not come in public. Local media reported that he is currently staying with a relative in the eastern city of Baida.
Saif al-Islam Gaddafi was granted amnesty by the interim government of eastern Libya. The militia group that blocked him also said that they did this at the request of the government.
However, Saif was sentenced to death in his absence by a court in Tripoli in the western part of the country. The region is under the control of the Government of National Accord, which is backed by the United Nations and opposes the interim government.
It should be noted that in November 2011, Saif was arrested in the desert on his way to Niger after escaping from Libya. After coming out in public, it is seen that he is missing some fingers. This former 'playboy' famous Gaddafi-son has often appeared in the Western world as the 'public face' of Gaddafi's regime and as Gaddafi's successor.
Even earlier, fake news about the release of Gaddafi's son was spread. If this information is confirmed, it is expected to add another element of instability to the current unstable political situation in Libya.
