The Dhaka Times Desk The era of 3G is coming to an end. Forge is coming again. The way to a paradise of imagination is getting easier. Although the matter is not yet finalised, it is suggested to license ForG in July.
According to media reports, it is proposed to license fourth generation network or 4G services in July next month. However, the guidelines have not been finalized so far.
On the other hand, it is alleged that no opinion of the mobile phone operators has been taken in the draft guidelines that have been prepared. Operators are still waiting; Their views will be taken before finalizing the guidelines.
On May 8, a meeting regarding the review of the activities of the Department of Posts and Telecommunications was held at the conference center of the Department of Posts and Telecommunications. Prime Minister Information and Communication Technology Advisor Sajeeb Wazed Joy was the chief guest in that meeting. As per the discussion in the meeting, BTRC will propose necessary amendments to the 4G guidelines and send them to the Department of Posts and Telecommunications. It is said that forge license should be given by next month i.e. July 2017.
After the meeting, Minister of State for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim told reporters that they have received the draft policy of Forji from BTRC. Licensing guidelines and wave policy will be finalized soon so that licensing of ForG can be done by July.
The stakeholders feel that it is impossible to finalize the guidelines for the license of Forge and organize the auction within this short period of time. On the other hand, the Prime Minister's Advisor on Information and Communication Technology urged the Forge license in that meeting but the progress is said to be very little. Even the guidelines have not been finalized. The latest news is that the mobile phone operators are now waiting for the consultation of the guidelines.
