The rescue operation has been suspended as the Sherpa team deployed to rescue him yesterday expressed inability to rescue him due to adverse weather conditions. The Sherpas were forced to return from the death zone after making two expeditions.
The rescue team, Seven Summits, has reached the Nepali authorities until June 5. The Sherpas recovered Khaled's bag and mask in the death zone yesterday and the day before Sunday. Shamima Chowdhury, the first secretary of the Bangladesh Embassy in Nepal, told the media yesterday that the Sherpas climbed the South Summit of Everest for the second time on Monday morning in search of Sajal's body. But they did not find his body there. It is snowing heavily. As a result Sherpas returned to Beige Camp 4. He also said that Nepali authorities have taken time till June 5 to find Khaled's body. If the weather is good or if there is any news, the Sherpas will go there again. Yesterday's operation recovered two masks used by Khaled at South Summit. Before this, the Sherpas conducted a search for Khaled's body at the South Summit at an altitude of 8750 meters on Sunday. They found his bag after staying in the 'death zone' for about two hours. Sherpas believe that Khaled's body may be trapped under the ice.
Khaled's body is believed to have sunk under the ice. But local experts say otherwise. They say, if Khaled's body goes to Tibet, it will never be possible to recover him. But if he stayed in Nepal instead of going to Tibet, then his body can be recovered again in the next season. Because there are many such corpses over the years. Dead bodies are not destroyed by ice. But to save the next season, a lot of money will be needed again.
It should be noted that Mohammad Khaled Hossain Sajal was killed on May 20 on his way back after conquering Everest. Sajal Khaled's body is believed to be in the South Summit Zone of the Himalayas at an altitude of about 8750 meters. Following the appeal of Khaled's family, a tripartite agreement was made between the Ministry of Tourism of Nepal and the Embassy of Bangladesh with Seven Summits Tracking Limited on Friday to retrieve his body. According to the agreement, the 12-member Sherpa team left for the South Summit from the Himalayan base camp on Saturday. They also have a backup team to provide immediate support. Seven Summit authorities are using satellite technology to provide updates on rescue operations and video images every half hour. Sherpas brought Sajal Khaled's body to Base Camp-II, from where he was supposed to be flown to Kathmandu by helicopter.
Meanwhile, Khaled's wife Shayla is currently staying in Kathmandu.
