Death toll in Pakistan tanker explosion exceeds 200

The Dhaka Times Desk Over 200 killed in Pakistan's overturned oil tanker explosion on Punjab road

The incident on June 25 took place in an area near South Ahmedpur. When the oil tanker overturned there, a large number of villagers rushed to the spot to collect the oil. At this time the casualty occurred in the explosion.

6 nearby cars and 12 motorcycles were also burnt in the accident. An official involved in the rescue operation said that the accident happened when someone tried to light a cigarette with a lighter while collecting oil.

Although 150 people were killed in this incident, local officials said that many of the injured died while undergoing treatment. Later, the death toll will be at least 206, said the officials.

DNA samples are being collected to identify the victims as many of them suffered severe burns. After this incident, a public funeral was held for 125 victims.
