What is dysentery?
Dysentery is an inflammatory disease of the intestines (mainly the colon). This causes mild or moderate abdominal pain, diarrhea, and passing blood or mucus in the stool. Diarrhea is usually caused by a bacterial infection. Bacteria such as Sigella, Compylobacter and E coli are responsible for dysentery. However, in some cases, viral infections and chemicals entering the intestines can also cause dysentery.
Symptoms
Symptoms of dysentery include abdominal pain, diarrhea and mucus with blood. These symptoms usually appear 2-3 days after the bacterial infection. After 5-6 days of infection, the problem subsides.
Treatment and prevention
If the above-mentioned symptoms occur, you must follow the doctor's advice seriously. But dysentery can be prevented if the following things are followed.
- Always try to drink clean water.
- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap after coming from the toilet and bathroom.
- Check that the food is cooked thoroughly before eating.
