Ahead of the World Cup curtain raiser, a Russian farmer managed to catch soccer's attention by building a replica football stadium made of straw. The fancy stadium was originally designed to highlight the sheer cost and inconsistency of hosting the World Cup.
A Russian farmer named Roman Punomarayov built a replica of the St. Petersburg stadium out of straw. Russia spent £573 million on the venue to make it fit for the World Cup. A total of 7 matches, including the semi-finals, are scheduled to be held at this venue in next year's World Cup. Roman's effort to highlight this huge cost to everyone.
This stadium is made of sand and straw. There are also 300 seats for spectators to enjoy the game! Last week some local teams also participated in a tournament in this fancy thatched stadium.
In an interview about the replica of the stadium, Punomarayuv told the media, "It's actually a great thing for me to see the excitement of people and the atmosphere of sports before the World Cup."
The original St. Petersburg Stadium hosted the Confederations Cup final last month. The replica World Cup venue, created by Poonomarayuv, is supposed to highlight the cost of construction, corruption, delays and deaths of workers. The matter is being pointed in the eyes of the World Cup organizers.
