Barisal's historic Mia Bari Mosque

One of the eye-catching historical monuments of Barisal is Mia Bari Mosque. Built during the Mughal period, this ancient structure of Bangladesh is located in the Karapur Mia house.

This two-storied mosque has 6 doors below, 3 doors on the second floor, 3 domes, 8 big and 12 small minarets. This historic mosque is located in Miyabari Village, Barisal Upazila Navgram Road North Karapur.

The founder of this mosque is Hayat Mahmud. He was exiled to Prince of Wales Island for rebelling against English rule. The zamindari of his stronghold Umedpur was also taken away.

In front of the mosque is a huge pond covering many acres. Which steals the heart of tourists.

This Karapur Miyabari mosque is built on a high basement. There are also a few rooms inside the basement on the ground floor. They are used for the accommodation of the students of the madrassas located near the mosque. There is a ready staircase on the second floor to enter the mosque.

There are 3 small domes on the top of this mosque. Of which the middle dome is slightly larger in size than the other two domes. Karapur Miyabari Mosque has a total of 8 minarets including 4 minarets on the front wall and 4 minarets on the back wall. The architecture of the mosque is similar to the Kartalab Khan Mosque built by Shaista Khan in Old Dhaka. Although the exact construction time is not known, it is believed that this historic mosque was built in the 18th century.
