The Dhaka Times Desk Recently, researchers in the United Kingdom have succeeded in creating the world's smallest robot that can be used in surgery. This robot will perform surgery. This robot, which looks like a human hand, has been named Versus.
Cambridge Medical Robotics, the manufacturer of this robot, said that the robot will be controlled mainly by surgeons. Nose, ear, throat, hernia, colorectal and prostate surgery can be assisted by this robot.
This robot is three times larger than the size of the machines currently used in the operation. Even small incisions in the patient's body require extensive preparation by surgeons. However, using Versace will eliminate the need for conventional open surgery.
Due to which the patient's pain and complications will be reduced to a great extent. It will also take less time to recover. Guidelines will be given on a 3D screen in the operation theatre. Surgeons will guide the robot by looking at those guidelines.
About the robot, Cambridge Medical Robotics CEO Martin Frost said that this is not the first time that surgical robots have been used in the medical field. However, as they are big in size, the price is also very high. The £2 million robot isn't used much except for pelvic surgery. On the other hand, the Versace with its four joints and needle measures only two feet by two feet. It is again affordable too.
It has been reported that the new robot will be unveiled in early 2018. It is expected to be possible to operate with the robot by the end of next year as trained surgeons become proficient in its use.
