The European Parliament has adopted a resolution praising Bangladesh's humanitarian efforts to deal with the massive influx of Rohingya refugees fleeing genocide in Myanmar.
The proposal of the EU Parliament session held in Brussels last Thursday said that the European Parliament recognizes Bangladesh's efforts in ensuring the protection of hundreds of thousands of Rohingya refugees in the face of this humanitarian disaster.
In addition, the European Parliament has called on other neighboring countries to allow Rohingya refugees to enter. They also called on the European Commission and EU member states to increase financial and material support for these refugees.
The proposal calls for EU countries to make it clear that they are prepared to consider imposing punitive sanctions against individuals and institutions if serious violations of international law continue.
According to media reports, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on Thursday strongly condemned the humanitarian crisis in Myanmar, calling it a "tragic catastrophe". In addition, the European Parliament also demanded an immediate end to violence against Rohingya Muslims.
It should be noted that due to this crisis, about 400,000 people fled from Myanmar and entered Bangladesh. International pressure on Myanmar's leader Aung San Suu Kyi is intensifying due to this crisis.
Meanwhile, the European Parliament proposed a strong call to the military and security forces to quickly stop the killing, torture, rape and burning of their homes.
