The Dhaka Times Desk Myanmar's State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi said that talks are ongoing with Bangladesh on Rohingya repatriation. Yesterday (Thursday) the country's state adviser's office said these things in a statement.
Myanmar's State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi said that talks are ongoing with Bangladesh regarding the repatriation of Rohingyas who fled from Rakhine.
Suu Kyi said these things in a statement yesterday (Thursday) at the country's state adviser's office. The English version of the statement was published on the official Facebook page of the Office of the State Adviser.
Suu Kyi said, we are discussing with Dhaka to bring back the people who left for Bangladesh. Since our independence, there have been two discussions with Bangladesh on this issue. Based on the past, we are discussing this for the third time.
Suu Kyi also said, 'You all know that the world's attention is on the Rakhine issue. Its journey started with the terrorist attack on the police outpost in October last year. A similar attack happened again in August this year. Several related problems have arisen since this attack. There are many criticisms against our country. We need to understand international opinion. Although it is not possible for anyone to understand the situation in our country. No one can ask for the peace and development of our country more than us. So we have to deal with these problems with the strength of unity.'
Suu Kyi also said in the statement, 'At this moment our country should, or needs to, continue to do. Moreover, it must be done correctly, boldly and effectively. We will implement the promises we have made until progress and success are achieved. We will show it to the world by our actions and actions rather than responding to criticism and complaints with words.'
Suu Kyi said about the work to be done in Rakhine, 'We have a lot to do in Rakhine State. If we make a to-do list and prioritize, 3 main to-dos come to the fore. And they are:
1. Repatriate those who have fled to Bangladesh and provide effective humanitarian assistance.
2. Resettlement and rehabilitation.
3. To ensure the development of the region and the establishment of stable peace.'
Suu Kyi also said, 'We should not only work on the rehabilitation of people brought back from Bangladesh. Work must also be done for the Rakhine and Hindus, along with the various minority ethnic groups in Rakhine. We will ensure that they become normal. We will undertake long-term and sustainable programs to improve their lives. Long-term plan for the development of the region and work to establish lasting peace to avoid conflict in the coming days.'
It should be noted that in the statement, Suu Kyi did not call the people who fled to Bangladesh as Rohingya. He also did not mention anything about the UN allegations of genocide. He did not even speak about the allegations of killing, arson and rape during the army operation in Rakhine. In a speech on September 19, Suu Kyi claimed that the military operation in Rakhine was over. Action was taken against those involved in the violence, but nothing was said about the Rohingyas. He only said that why Muslims are fleeing to Bangladesh should be investigated.
Meanwhile, after Suu Kyi's statement, experts in Bangladesh said that Suu Kyi said many things in words. But it remains to be seen whether they will be fully implemented. Because words and actions are two different things. But time will tell if he keeps that status intact by receiving the award in peace.
