The UN committee has called on the Myanmar government to take back the Rohingyas from Bangladesh and grant them full citizenship. The proposal will now go to the 193-member UN General Assembly, with a final vote in December. It is expected that this proposal will be passed there as well.

The 57 member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) raised the proposal in the UN committee. On behalf of the OIC, Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the United Nations, Abdullah Al Mowallimi, said that another extreme inhumane picture of religious hatred is being seen in Myanmar's Rakhine State.

It should be noted that on August 25, the Myanmar army started an operation against the Rohingya in Rakhine State. Various countries and international organizations have accused of genocide, rape and torture in the name of that campaign. Since then, more than 620,000 Rohingyas have fled to Bangladesh in fear of their lives. This trend is still continuing.
