Interestingly, swimming was made a prerequisite for a degree at this university much earlier - in 1919. But later it was dropped again. One reason was the lack of swimming pools in Beijing. However, the recently published new rules state that new students must have the ability to pass at least 50 meters in any type of swimming. If one does not know how to swim at the time of entrance examination, then he has to learn it before graduation.
