The Dhaka Times Desk Today there are stories of ancient villages of the Lilliputians that are 1500 years old. This story will remind you again of those Lilliputians from 'Gulliver's Travels'. Which we have seen many times on TV.
The stories of 'Gulliver's Travels' are written by Jonathan Swift. We watched Gullivers TV series on BTV as kids. All the people in a country were very small in size. A few that Gulliver could have held together in the palm of his hand.
Although the story of Gulliver's Travels is a fairy tale, there were such tiny people in reality. There was a whole village of little people. Recently BBC gave such news.
In the eastern part of Iran there is a village called Makhunik, where Dwarves or Dwarves were seen about a hundred years ago. This village, which is only 75 km from the Afghan border, is about 1500 years old. The average height of the people who lived in this village at that time was at least 50 cm less than the average height of people today.
It is known that a mummy was found in this village in 2005, whose height was only 25 cm. After that, the researchers were certain that dwarfs were living in this region. Experts believe that not only Makhunik, but at least 12 other nearby villages, these dwarfs lived at one time.
The height of the people in this region was very low due to malnutrition and the area was not suitable for agriculture. Not only humans, but even animals find it very difficult to grow in this region. Apart from turnips, barley, fruits like jujube and a few grains, nothing can be cultivated in this region. The residents of Makhunik village had to survive on very simple vegetable food.
According to a report, even drinking tea at that time was looked upon as a laughing stock by the inhabitants of the region. Ahmad Rahnama, a 61-year-old resident of the village, told the BBC, “When I was very young, no one in this village drank tea. If someone did it, the rest would laugh at him. I thought he was addicted to drugs!
The report also says that the first paved road was built in the village of Makhunik in the middle of the 20th century. After that mainly food from outside regions like rice and meat started entering this village.
It is known that Ahmad also runs a museum on the historical architectural style and traditional lifestyle of Makhunik. He said, “When vehicles started moving in this village, the residents started going out and bringing food.
Like the primitive people of Makhunik, their houses were very small and low in height. Out of about 700 houses in the village, 200 are still from the earlier period. The roofs of these houses are on average one and a half to two meters high from the ground. 70 to 80 houses are very low, whose height is less than one and a half meters!
Of course, the fact that the houses are so low is not only because of the short height of the people. Rather, the houses in these villages are small in size and low in height to reduce the effort that people had to put in building houses. As livestock cannot be reared in this region, the villagers had to bring their own tools for building houses. Therefore, the residents of this region used to build houses very soon.
At present, the overall situation of this region is not at all the same as before. The situation has also changed drastically. The height of people in this region is now fairly normal. At present most of the inhabitants of the village appear to be of normal height and physically fit.
