Mount Vernon authorities announced the matter in a Facebook post that evening. In a Facebook post, they said, a 227-year-old tree fell due to strong winds.

On the other hand, Mount Vernon's president of visitor affairs, Rob Schenck, said several old trees were blown down by the gusty winds. The storm is reported to have passed not only over Vernon but also over Washington.
