The Dhaka Times Desk A three-way battle for the Basis elections today. Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) elections today.
Just a few days before the election, complications arose with the election. Finally the complications are over. The commerce ministry in a letter on March 27 suspended the election, but the order was withdrawn the next day. So the pre-announced today is March 31 (Saturday) Basis election.
BASIS Election Board Chairman SM Kamal said that all preparations for the election have already been completed. Polling will continue from 10 am to 5 pm today (Saturday) at BASIS office in Karwan Bazar of the capital.
The largest number of candidates have contested in this year's election of BASIS Executive Committee for the term 2018-20. 31 candidates are fighting for 9 posts this time. There are 26 candidates in 3 panels. And 5 independent candidates. There are total 3 female candidates. Out of 1 thousand 62 members of BASIS, the number of voters is 687. Among them 474 ordinary and 213 associate members.
3 teams are competing in this year's Basis election, Wind of Change, Horizon and Team Durjoy Panel.
The Wind of Change panel is headed by Dohatech New Media Chairman and Janata Bank Chairman Luna Shamsuddoha. This panel also includes Mohammad Nuruzzaman, Iqbal Ahmad, Abu Dawood Khan, Rezwana Khan, Mohammad Sanwarul Islam, Noor Mahmud Khan and M Asif Rahman.
Luna Shamsuddoha says, 'To take BASIS to new heights requires a major change in leadership. That's why experienced and energetic workers are needed. Keeping these things in mind, we have arranged our panel with successful and experienced people in this sector. I think this panel is the best panel for the development of the technology sector including the software industry.
Referring to the BASIS elections, Luna Shamsuddoha said, 'Why did we come to the BASIS elections today? The reason is that we want to further advance this information technology sector. To make information technology world class, youth should be employed. That is the only objective behind our election. We want to harness the young generation to bring this sector to the top of the world. That's why we need a platform. And that is the basis.'
Horizon is headed by BASIS President Syed Almas Kabir. The current vice president Farhana A Rahman and director Delwar Hossain (associate) are also in this panel. Apart from this there are Shoaib Ahmed, Mushfiqur Rahman, Tamjid Siddique, Fahim Tanveer Ahmed, Didarul Alam and Rashad Kabir.
Team Durjoy is led by former BASIS Secretary General Mustafa Rafiqul Islam. Md. is also in this panel. Sahibur Rahman Khan, AKM Ahmadul Islam, Mohammad Amin Ullah, Zahidul Alam, ASM Asaduzzaman, Zia Ashraf, AKAM Rashedul Majid and Zaman Khan (associates).
AKM Fahim Masroor, the former president of the organization, has been nominated as an associate member in this election. He is electing as an independent candidate. The remaining four independent candidates are Mahbub Hasan, Md. Enamul Haque, Md. Shahjalal and ASM Jamal Uddin.
Considering the situation, it seems that the members will vote very carefully in today's election. Because the members are naturally aware that voting for which group will improve the sector.
