Making a special house for the homeless!

A resident of Cologne, Germany has taken up an initiative to save the homeless from the severe winter. He is building small houses for them. Cologne city authorities have also said that no one has to freeze on the streets in Cologne this winter.

According to news media, when winter comes, around three lakh homeless people living on the streets of Germany have become helpless. It becomes very difficult for them to keep themselves warm throughout the day and get a comfortable place to sleep at night due to severe cold.

A local photographer from Cologne has taken it upon herself to create a warm environment for the homeless. Sven Lüdke makes small houses suitable for placing on the side of the road. These houses made of wood are tall enough to stand on and can accommodate 'mattresses' in them. "Our goal is to give the homeless some respite from normal life and let them know they're not alone, we are, we haven't forgotten them," Luedke said.

Luedke decided to help the homeless after seeing a report on television last September. The cost of building each house including transportation is about 8500 Euros. In the beginning he was alone but now some others are helping him. Small houses are built in the backyard of his house.

It should be noted that the response to this initiative of Lude is quite less than what is needed. The number of homeless people in Cologne is about 5 thousand. 150 people have still not got a home due to Ludek's initiative. But still this initiative of his has encouraged some helpless people to stand up.
