According to the report of Anandabazar newspaper, four students committed suicide in IISC campus this year. Last year this number was at two. It is said that the work of removing the fan from the hostel will be completed within 15 days.
The initiative to remove ceiling fans from hostels has also seen negative reactions among students. According to an internal survey, 88 percent of students felt that simply turning off the ceiling fan and replacing it with another fan would not solve the problem. 90 percent said there was no need for it. 6 percent of students think that this change does not matter to them.
The institute has a 'Wellness Centre' to reduce the stress of IISC students. The students think that it has become completely irrelevant. However, it is also known that the development of the center is being considered seriously.
However, the question of why the ceiling fan is being removed without going in the way of improving the mental health of the students of this famous educational institution or to prevent the suicide tendency of the students or the teacher-student dialogue, has not been answered.
