Narsingdi's historic Athakandi Mosque was established centuries ago by a local landlord named Maulana Alim Uddin. He was the son-in-law of Nawab Abdur Rahim Chowdhury of Bogra.
Alim Uddin was a very pious man. He was educated in Islamic education. He received his education from Deoband and later taught in a madrasa in Dhaka.
The mosque was established by Alim Uddin on the banks of river Meghna in Atkandi village of Amirganj union of Raipura upazila. Right next to the mosque is the grave of Maulana Alim Uddin's wife i.e. Nawab Abdur Rahim Chowdhury's daughter. It is said that Maulana Alim Uddin built this mosque out of love and passion for his wife.
Due to its old age, the mosque no longer has that charm. However, every day many pilgrims flock here from far and wide to see this historic mosque.
The mosque looks a lot like the Taj Mahal in Agra. There is greenery all around. Being near the river on one side of the village, the atmosphere of this mosque is always shrouded in silence.
Sarkar Abul Kalam, the famous writer of Narsingdi, in his book 'Legend of Narsingdi' has mentioned that this mosque is believed to have been built in 1890 during the Mughal era. At that time, mosque-centric society was run.

Avoid using highly alkaline soaps or detergents.
