The Dhaka Times Desk Sri Lanka's energy minister Kanchana Wijesekera issued a stern warning about oil reserves in the midst of a severe economic crisis.
The country's Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said that their country has less than a day's worth of petrol in stock. The next shipment of petrol may take more than two weeks to arrive. He said that more difficult situation is waiting for them in this situation.
Meanwhile, the country's education minister has announced that all public and private schools will be closed for another week from July 4. The syllabus will be completed during the next summer vacation.
The energy minister told reporters on Sunday that they currently have 12,774 tons of diesel and 4,61 tons of petrol. The next shipment of petrol is expected to be available between July 22-23. A shipment of diesel is expected to arrive later this week, but Wijesekera cautioned that Sri Lanka does not have enough money to import enough fuel and crude oil. Sri Lanka's central bank can currently only pay $125 million to buy fuel, which is far less than the $587 million needed to clear the entire fuel shipment. He also said the seven fuel suppliers still receive $800 million from the country this year. The news comes after Sri Lanka banned the sale of fuel to private vehicles until next week.
