The mosque you see is the historic Maria Kismat Mosque located in Maria village of Durgapur upazila of Rajshahi.
However, due to the fact that no inscriptions have been recovered, no accurate information about the construction history of the magnificent mosque has been available so far. Locals claim that this Kismat Mariam Masjid was built in the 15th century AD. However, according to the Bangladesh Archeology Department, it is a structure built around the 18th century.
Because the dome and construction style of this mosque are similar to the Kartlab Khan Mosque in Old Dhaka, some researchers have suggested that this mosque was built in the 18th century. Why Karatlab Khan Mosque was built by Nawab Murshid Quli Khan in 1703. On the other hand, it is also believed to be an architectural work built during the Mughal period by seeing the use of lime-surki and brick.
The walls of this mosque with 3 domes and 4 minar shaped pillars show remarkable artistic craftsmanship. Some artistic works still exist on the decaying walls of the mosque. It contains terracotta terracottas by artists in the Muslim tradition, holding trees, flowers, vines, etc. Looking at the remaining craftsmanship gives an idea of the lost beauty of the mosque.
