The Dhaka Times Desk Awami League's parliamentary party has nominated Interim President Speaker Abdul Hamid for the April 29 presidential election. This decision was taken in a meeting in this regard at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban today, Sunday, April 21 morning. Sources of the meeting confirmed the matter. At the beginning of the meeting, a minute's silence was observed in memory of late President Zillur Rahman. Awami League advisory council member Tofail Ahmed proposed the name of Abdul Hamid, another advisory council member Amir Hossain Amu supported it. Awami League parliamentary party leader Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting.
After the meeting, a delegation of the parliamentary committee will go to the Election Commission and submit the nomination papers of Speaker Abdul Hamid.
