YouTube was finally opened

The Dhaka Times Desk YouTube is finally open. This news has been confirmed by the online edition of a daily citing an official of BTRC.

According to the news, after eight months, the government has lifted the ban on Google's video site YouTube on Wednesday afternoon. BTRC official Zakir Hossain Khan has confirmed the information about opening YouTube to Prothom Alo.com.

Zakir Hossain Khan said about the opening of YouTube, today at four o'clock in the afternoon it was announced about the opening of YouTube. BTRC Chairman Sunil Kanti Bose has informed all International Internet Gateways (IIGs) verbally and through e-mails to take measures to open YouTube in addition to verbally.

It should be noted that the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) stopped Google's video service YouTube in the country on the night of September 17 last year for not removing the American film mocking the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) from YouTube. At that time, BTRC said that YouTube videos cannot be viewed in Bangladesh until further instructions. The BTRC had initially written a letter requesting the removal of the film on the government's orders. As it did not work, BTRC blocked YouTube from Bangladesh.
