A British couple fell in love with dogs and finally stayed in India! It is known that a British couple visited Kerala, India for only 10 days, but they never returned to their country. They spent 3 lakh pounds of their own savings on a group of dogs in Kerala, India!

The couple retired from the job much before the scheduled time. They were supposed to travel around the world.

It is known that after Gran Canaria they booked a two-week holiday in India for sightseeing. Mary and Steve Muscroft decided that they would go to the city of Kovalam in the southern Indian state of Kerala.

They went there, but did not return from there. They saw two dogs. Their love for the animal became so intense that the couple started caring for the two dogs.

Surprisingly, 10 years have passed since then! Now they have about a hundred dogs. They also run a clinic for animals. They have also formed an organization to care for stray dogs. The work of the organization is to take stray sick dogs from the streets and take care of them by feeding them, giving them vaccinations, etc.

In a response to the media, Mary said, “I never thought that something like this would happen in my life. We cannot spend our lives just sitting, reading books and eating. I don't think anyone wants to live like that."

Steve said he also ran a business in Bradford before retiring. He said, “We did not have much financial solvency either. Again, we did not have much difficulty. So we don't decide to retire at a young age. We didn't have any plans other than to tour Europe."

The couple's first goal was to see what life would be like without a working goat. Steve said, “We were just visiting India for two weeks. But then I fell in love with two puppies!”

“Then everything changed,” says Steve. From two dogs there were 6 dogs at one time. Then 12. This is how the number of dogs started to increase.”

After a few days, the couple started looking for stray dogs in Kovalam. He also started feeding the dogs. At one time the number of dogs increased so much that they had to hire a big rickshaw to carry food for them.

That's why they hired a rickshaw driver on a permanent basis. Whose name is Kukbu. Currently, he is the manager of a dog clinic.

Slowly everyone in the city came to know about this couple. They used to pick up dogs from the road, people also brought dogs and left them in front of the door of this couple's house. Steve said that once they found 6 puppies inside a plastic bag.

Gradually the life of this couple started to change like this. Day and night it became their job to bring home sick dogs from the streets, feed them and treat them.

The couple used to wake up early in the morning to read. Then they would bathe the dogs, feed them, check their health etc.

It's so hot every day from 11am to 3pm, most days the average temperature reaches above 30 degrees Celsius, at which time even the dogs sleep a little. After 4 o'clock the eating and drinking phase starts again.

The dog-crazy couple says dog ailments are not a problem in Kovalam. They are vaccinated at the beginning.

The dog-crazy couple also said that they have already spent 3 lakh pounds of their savings on these dogs in Kerala. Currently, they also organize events to raise money. Many families, friends and tourists are helping them with money.

When the couple started working with the dogs, the beach area of Kovalam had 633 dogs. In 2017, their number decreased to only 89.

Their job is to sterilize dogs that recover and release them back onto the streets. Only sick dogs are brought to their shelter.

Steve said, “I miss my relatives all the time, I miss my friends, I miss the English breakfast, I miss the food. Also miss pubs and football TV shows Match of the Day!”

“But it has its upsides,” says Steve. For example, here I never have to clear ice from the car windows. I don't have to pay extra bills for heating the house in the cold."

“I'm as happy as I can be at 60,” says Steve.

There is no doubt that they will be rewarded in this world and the next for the way the couple is taking care of the animals, especially the street dogs. How many people have this compassion for animals?
