The Dhaka Times Desk Fernando de Noronha is one of the islands of Brazil. The island is even listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its biodiversity. But the strange thing is that childbirth is not legal in this island. But why such a law has been issued?

Around 3000 people live on this small island surrounded by natural rich environment and brackish water. There is only one hospital to serve the islanders. A hospital should first of all have a maternity ward. However, there is no department for childbirth in that hospital.
Therefore, the authorities have imposed a ban on childbirth in order to prevent any harm to the mother and child during childbirth. And orders have been issued to take expectant mothers to an off-island hospital to give birth.
For 12 years the residents of the island have been complying with this law. However, an incident happened this year. A 22-year-old woman defied the law and gave birth to a baby girl on the island. According to the woman and her husband, they did not know she was pregnant. He goes to the toilet when the stomachache suddenly starts and he realizes something is coming out. Then she gave birth to a daughter with the help of her husband.
However, the authorities and local residents did not take any legal action against them for disobeying the law. Rather, the islanders enthusiastically helped them in various ways.
