The Dhaka Times Desk This time, the United States is going to impose sanctions on Russia. Such a move was announced by Washington through a statement.
According to the BBC, the United States announced sanctions against Russia after it was confirmed that a nerve agent was used on a former Russian agent living in the UK and his daughter.
Earlier last March, former Russian agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia were found unconscious on a bench in Salisbury. It was later learned that chemical nerve agents had been used on them. Due to this they became seriously ill. After a few weeks of hospital treatment, they began to recover.
A British investigation blamed Russia for the chemical attack. However, the Kremlin has strongly denied this allegation. They claim that Russia has nothing to do with the attack.
In a statement last Wednesday, the US State Department said that they have confirmed that Russia was involved in the incident. State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said in a statement that it has been confirmed that the country has violated international law by using chemical or biological weapons. They have also used lethal chemical or biological weapons against their own citizens.
