India is being given the responsibility of looking after Iran's Chabahar port. Iran's Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhundi, who is visiting India, gave this information last Thursday. Iran's Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhundi is currently in India to participate in a conference.
Abbas Akhundi told the media, "We are ready to hand over the port of Chabahar to the Indian company as per the interim decision."
It is understood that the Chabahar port was inaugurated late last year to create a strategic transport route between India, Iran and Afghanistan, bypassing Pakistan. This port is mainly located on the coast of Gulf of Oman.
Notably, Iran, India and Afghanistan also signed a tripartite agreement in 2016 for the joint development of Chabahar port.
