The influential American periodical Time magazine announced the deceased Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi as 'Person of the Year'. Jamal Khashoggi was brutally killed by assassins at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey on October 2.
This American magazine referred to journalist Jamal Khashoggi as the Guardian of Truth. However, along with Khashoggi, oppressed and killed journalists of several other countries of the world have also been included in this year's Time's Person of the Year list.
In addition to Jamal Khashoggi, Time's list includes Maria Ressa, a journalist from the Philippine news outlet Rappler, two reporters of Reuters imprisoned in Myanmar, Wa Lon and Kyaw Soe Oo, 5 members killed in the Capital Gazette of Annapolis, USA. These 5 members of Capital Gadget were shot dead last June.
BBC said in a news, this is the first time that this American magazine has selected a person who was killed as 'Person of the Year' and placed him on the cover. Last year, US President Donald Trump was declared 'Person of the Year' by Time.
