Today is Martyred Intellectuals Day

The Dhaka Times Desk Today is December 14, Martyred Intellectuals Day. A painful day in the history of Bengali nation. On this day in 1971, the invading Pakistani army of assassins hatched a heinous conspiracy knowing that defeat was certain in the face of the mighty prowess of the valiant freedom fighters.

Pakistanis wanted to make the Bengalis brainless. That's why they selectively abducted prominent academicians, doctors, writers, journalists, philosophers and prominent people in the field of culture from their homes and brutally killed them. The Razakar-Albadar forces of this country directly assisted the Pakistani killers in this barbaric killing.

The killers committed this hellish massacre on December 14, just two days before the final victory in the Great War of Liberation. They took the intellectuals away from their homes with the direct support of the Razakars-Albadars. After the victory, the wounded corpses of these famous intellectuals of the country were found one by one in the abandoned brickyards of Rayerbazar, Mirpur and other slaughterhouses with their hands, feet and eyes tied. Before killing them, demonic torture was carried out on them. After finding these dead bodies, the blueprint for killing the intellectuals of the killers was revealed. The world conscience was stunned by this incident.

The Bengali nation always remembers the martyred intellectuals, the best children of the nation, with respect and pain on this day before the victory festival. In the morning, countless people will pay tribute to the memory of martyred intellectuals who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the country at intellectual memorials in Mirpur and Rayerbazar by offering wreaths. There are other events throughout the day.

This time too, on Martyrs Intellectual Day, people will flock to the memorial sites of Mirpur and Rayerbazar from the morning. Freedom fighters with the family members of the martyred intellectuals, people from all walks of life, socio-cultural, political organizations and especially the new generation youth will come forward calling for building a liberal free democratic country in the spirit of the liberation war.
