7 TV channels of the country are taking service from Bangabandhu-1 satellite

Time TV, DBC News, Independent TV, NTV, Ekatar TV, Vijay Bangla and Boishakhi TV

The Dhaka Times Desk Along with 3 national TV channels, 7 private channels are receiving service from Bangabandhu-1 satellite. The 3 national channels are BTV World, Sangsad Bangladesh Television and BTV Chittagong.

On the other hand, the 7 private TV channels served are Samam TV, DBC News, Independent TV, NTV, Ekatar TV, Vijay Bangla and Boishakhi TV. These TV channels are using Bangabandhu-1 satellite transmission, the only satellite of Bangladesh since last few days.

However, at the same time, the channels also have connections with foreign satellite apps. This is because at least 3 months prior notice is required to cancel the service contract. These private TV channels will give that notice in January. Because of this, from March these 7 TV channels will transmit only through Bangabandhu-1. This information was given by Bangladesh Communications Satellite Company Limited (BCSCL).

According to media reports, DTH company Realview has also recently signed an agreement with BCSCL for television transmission. That's why within a short time, 48 national and foreign television channels will start broadcasting Bangabandhu-1 through satellite.

It is also known in the news that apart from this, BCSCL will quickly enter into an agreement with two local Visat companies. If that happens, the country's first and only government satellite will start earning quickly.

It should be noted that after the satellite was launched into space in its orbit of 119.1 degrees on May 11, it was reported to BCSCL by Thalas Alenia Space, the manufacturer of the satellite. Because of that, there has been a little delay in starting the commercial activities, say BCSCL officials.

While not mentioning anything about the other private satellite televisions currently in operation, the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission has decided that the new licensees should start broadcasting from the Bangabandhu-1 satellite if they are to come into service.

Because of which BCSCL is also assured of a guaranteed income. BTRC has now attached it as a condition for allotment of television spectrum after taking such a decision in a recent commission meeting.

It is known that even if the television stations get a license from the Ministry of Information, they will have to approach BTRC for spectrum. As a satellite company, Bangladesh Communication Satellite Company Limited (BCSCL) gives spectrum to televisions, but its license must be taken from BTRC.
