The Dhaka Times Desk After the discovery of Buddhvihar at Raghurampur in Munshiganj Sadar and Nateshwar Buddhist city of Tongibari, now the royal palace of Sen period has been discovered at Ballalbari of Rampal.
It is believed that this palace houses the palace and temple of King Ballal Sen. Excavators were able to discover an 800-year-old archaeological structure buried under the ground in a two-day test excavation.
Locals said that the Ballalbari area of Rampal Union of Munshiganj Sadar is better known as 'Bikrampur', the capital of Sen kings of Bengal, but no sign of Rajbari was visible there until now. No archaeological excavations had previously been conducted to discover the massive house that surrounds the encroached and densely populated area. Archaeological survey and excavation work was started from 2011 to recover ancient artifacts and archaeological resources under the initiative of an organization called 'Agrasar Bikrampur Foundation'. In this, a thousand-year-old Buddhist monastery was discovered in Raghurampur village of Rampal union and the Buddhist temple of Nateswar in Tongibari. Now this royal palace of Sen era was discovered in Ballalbari area of the same union.
Professor Shah Sufi Mostafizur Rahman of Jahangirnagar University, who supervised the excavation work, told the media that the stones found in the excavation work at Ballalbari are very important. They can also be broken pieces of architecture. He expressed hope that more things will come out if large-scale excavation work is done. According to his opinion, when the excavation work is 100% completed, the whole picture of the capital can emerge.
Professor Shah Sufi Mostafizur Rahman also said that two days of experimental excavation work has been done since January 21. Archaeological teams from China and Bangladesh have jointly participated in this work. He also said that the level found after excavation of Ballalbari is believed to be the palace of Raja Ballal Sen. There is a moat around the house. Originally it was constructed artificially to ensure the security of the palace. But now there are roads and buildings over the moat. The trench is clearly visible from behind Rampal College, he said. By seeing this moat, it is understood that the palace was within a security fence. This place is now privately owned property. However, efforts are being made to proceed with the excavation work with the permission of the owners, he said.

Nuh-ul-Alam Lenin told the media that experimental excavation has been started in Ballalbari with the cooperation of local administration, land revenue department officials and district administration. On January 21, only 9 square meters of excavation revealed important architectural traces of the ancient settlement. On the first day, the archeological artifacts of Sen Rajbari were exposed. Lenin also said that several other things including ancient brickwork, pottery and charcoal were also found during the excavation.
It is known that carbon-14 testing of charcoal is done scientifically to determine the age or construction period of the archeology. The charcoal from this place will therefore easily determine its age. Nuh-ul-Alam Lenin said, at the beginning of this excavation work, the discovery of a fascinating chapter in the history of Bengali of about 800 years has begun. Another chapter is going to be added in the history of Bengali through the discovery of Sen Rajbari.
According to researchers, there was also a square fort here. As much as has been excavated, architectural samples have come out. Along with this survey, it is assumed that the house of Sen Raja had a walled fort-like palace and temple. Archaeologists said, the collected charcoal will be sent to the American laboratory 'Beta' for testing. After the carbon test, the sample collected there will be known how many years ago. There is also a period of Ballal Sen in history. Therefore, it is believed that an extraordinary information can be added to the history by combining the two periods.
