The Dhaka Times Desk Finally, Egypt's President Mohamed Morsi was ousted by the military on July 3 in a coup d'état.
Earlier, the army had given Morsi a 2-day term. He was ousted and the country's constitution was suspended for not resigning within that stipulated time.
The country's army chief, General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, announced Morsi's ouster in an address to the nation on state television. In the speech at midnight Bangladesh time on July 3, he also said that the Constitutional Council will manage the state until the elections.
It is to be noted that, earlier, President Morsi's National Security Adviser said that the government is facing a military coup because there is no political solution to the ongoing conflict between the government and the opposition.
Morsi is in a Republican Guard barracks near Cairo and will remain there, a Morsi aide said. The advisers left the palace after 9pm.
Senior Muslim Brotherhood leaders, including Morsi, have been banned from leaving the country, according to international media. In addition, television stations owned by leaders of Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood have been shut down.
