The Dhaka Times Desk In the last 20 days, 1500 Facebook IDs of Bangladesh have been closed. Allegations were made that the IDs were spreading extremist ideology, hateful comments, distorted images and inflammatory speech. Telecommunication and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar gave this to the media.
According to the relevant sources, the relevant organizations have evidence that fake IDs were opened in the names of prominent people, political leaders and other people. Based on these facts and evidence, the Facebook authorities were requested to stop fake IDs, pages and links of groups through selected focal points from the country.
When asked about this, Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Mustafa Jabbar told a news media, 'Recently we have been able to close one and a half thousand Facebook IDs. Disinformation was being spread from those that were closed. Militants were also using different IDs.'
Mostafa Jabbar also said, 'Many people have said that Facebook IDs have anything to do with pornography because they are shutting down porn sites. In fact, the IDs that have been closed have nothing to do with pornography.'
The minister also said, 'Our relationship with Facebook has become warmer than before. They listen when we say something or request something. Also matches their community standards. Try to understand our requests and act quickly. I think this is a great achievement.'
Noting that more IDs will be blocked soon, he said, "They have already been identified." Our team is working day and night.'
It is known that DOT (Department of Telecom) under the Department of Posts and Telecommunications is working vigorously to monitor the cyber world. Cyber security monitoring project started under DOT. Almost half of these projects have already been implemented. Those concerned said that with the activation of this project, it is possible to monitor social media better than before.
Sources concerned said that the ruling party has an IT monitoring cell. That cell is actively working on these issues. Also, the 'Social Media Monitoring Cell' formed during the elections is still functioning. The combined benefits of those are currently available. Moreover, law enforcement agencies, telecommunication regulatory body BTRC, National Telecom Monitoring Cell (NTMC) and related departments are more active in monitoring than before, so it is very easy to identify these through social media.
