The Dhaka Times Desk Saudi Arabia has revoked the citizenship of Hamza bin Laden, the son of al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. This was announced on Friday by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement published in the state newspaper Umm Al-Qura.
The decision to revoke Hamza's citizenship was taken last November under a royal order, the newspaper reported. However, the Saudi government announced the decision just one day after the United States announced a maximum reward of 1 million US dollars as a reward for Hamza's handover or any information about his whereabouts.
The United States has identified Hamza bin Laden as the 'emerging leader' of al-Qaeda. Since 2017, the country has been referring to him as a 'terrorist' person.
According to the US State Department, Hamza released videos and audios on the Internet calling for revenge for the death of father Osama by carrying out terrorist attacks on the capitals of Western countries.
Moreover, Hamza has also called on various Saudi groups to work in association with Al-Qaeda's Yemeni branch - there are allegations against him.
