The Dhaka Times Desk Bangabandhu Satellite-1 (BS-1) is being linked with Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) to provide secure banking services besides bringing desi television channels under satellite internet.
At the same time, on the eve of Bangabandhu Satellite's one-year completion or foundation anniversary, an initiative has also been taken to deliver internet services to remote areas.
Bangladesh Communication Satellite Company Limited (BCSCL) Chairman Dr. Shahjahan Mahmud said, May 12 is the anniversary of Bangabandhu Satellite-1. On the eve of the foundation anniversary, the bank's ATM booths and online financial transactions will be connected with satellite internet. Along with this, the satellite service will be delivered to the remote areas of the country deprived of internet service by connecting the domestic television channel with it.
The plan to bring most of the ATM booths under the internet service. Shahjahan Mahmud also said, 'At the initial stage, the experimental use of satellite internet service will be started at the ATM booth of Dutch Bangla Bank in the presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the anniversary of the establishment of Bangabandhu Satellite. Satellite internet service is much more secure than broadband internet.' He claimed that there is no chance of any information being leaked from the satellite internet system.
He also said that initiatives have been taken to deliver 3G and broadband internet services to Hatia Island and other areas of the country that are deprived of internet. The beginning of which will be on this day. Note that currently there are about 40 television channels and 7000 ATM booths of commercial banks in the country.
Regarding the use of BS-1, the managing director of Dutch Bangla Bank, Abul Kashem Mohammad Shireen, said that, "We want to provide Internet services to customers in remote and unconnected areas with 'dedicated' bandwidth available from satellite." Stating that Dutch Bangla Bank has 4800 ATM booths, Abul Kashem Mohammad Shireen also said, "Using this satellite bandwidth, we hope to reach more people."
Several exhibitions on the multi-purpose use of the Bangabandhu Satellite will also be held on the occasion of the anniversary. These include online banking, online financial transactions, bringing all TV channels under satellite coverage, etc. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to attend the event as the chief guest.
