Sri Lanka's tourism sector has suffered a massive collapse

The Dhaka Times Desk Sri Lanka is an island nation in South Asia. The country of breathtaking natural beauty is known as a summer paradise for tourists from all over the world. But Sri Lanka's tourism sector has collapsed due to the series of bomb attacks.

Recently, the island nation has come to a standstill after a series of bomb attacks on churches and luxury hotels in various cities including the capital Colombo.

According to media reports, 5 percent of the country's GDP is generated from the tourism sector alone. However, due to this terrible attack, there has been a massive collapse in the country's tourism industry.

Although the country is visited by tourists throughout the year, a different picture was seen immediately after the attack. A number of countries have also issued new travel warnings for citizens staying in Sri Lanka. Due to which tourists have canceled hotel and flight bookings due to the fear of further attacks.

Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena described the disaster for the country's economy and tourism industry. Recently, he said in an interview, "To save the country's economy, it has become necessary to bring the tourism sector back to its former position."
