On Monday afternoon, the Kolkata Police stopped and searched the car of BJP candidate Nilanjan Roy from Diamond Harbor and the car of Union Minister Ajay Tamta in the evening. After finding nothing untoward, both men's cars were released.

Gautam and Lakshmikanth were arrested after they were seen loitering suspiciously at the station on Sunday evening, the railway police said. They were arrested without being able to show any valid documents of such amount of money.

Railway police claimed that the arrested identified themselves as BJP workers. Superintendent of Railway Police of Howrah Division Niladri Chakraborty said, "We have arrested two people. Unaccounted money was found with them. Will be interrogated to find out the details.”

According to Railway Police sources, Gautam's house is under the jurisdiction of North 24 Parganas district. Another arrested, named Laxmikant, is a resident of South Delhi.

Dilip Babu, however, said, "Gautam was my close assistant earlier. However, he is not in that position for several days. In between he used to watch my Kharagpur work. But later he used to go to Kashmir, sometimes to Andaman because he would do business.

He said, I learned from the media that he was caught with money. I don't know what kind of money, his business money or not. I am looking. There are many conspiracies going on to trap the party!

BJP's All India President Amit Shah said in an interview to the media today, "Let there be a legal investigation. Whether the police kept that money in their bags or not, let them investigate.

According to the Railway Police, around 7:30 pm on Sunday, two persons were roaming on platform number 5 of Asansol station with a blue bag. Railway police personnel apprehended them as the movement seemed suspicious. During the search of the bag, it can be seen that two thousand and five hundred taka notes are arranged one by one.

The Railway Police claimed that the arrested first claimed that they were taking the money for business purposes. But they could not show any documents. It was then that the Income Tax Department was informed. Then the money counting machine was brought. Videography is done while counting money.
