Sheikh Isa Ibn Salman Al Khalifa built this mosque in 1987 AD. The mosque is named after Ahmed Al Fateh, the conqueror of Bahrain.

This mosque is the largest mosque in Bahrain. The area of the mosque is 6500 square meters and about 7000 Muslims can pray together. One of the features of this mosque is that the domes are made of fiber glass. This glass weighs 60,000 kg (or 60 tons). It is the largest fiber glass dome mosque in the world. Italian marble is used for the floor of this mosque. The chandeliers inside are Austrian made chandeliers. Its doors are made of precious teak wood imported from India. On the wall there are verses from the Quran and Hadith written in the ancient style of Kufic calligraphy.

In 2006, the mosque's library was converted into the National Library of Bahrain. For this reason, this mosque is also known as Ahmed Al-Fettah Islamic Center. The number of books in the library of this mosque is about 7 thousand. There are many valuable books and periodicals of about 100 years old. Inside these books are - glossy printed copies of Al-Quran, old hadith collections, various Arabic encyclopedias, encyclopedias of Islamic law, several editions of Al-Azhar magazine printed 100 years ago.

It is known that at present this mosque is used for offering prayers but also as a center for learning, many people who are thirsty for knowledge flock here. Apart from this, many tourists also flock to enjoy the beauty of this mosque. For this reason, this mosque is now considered as one of the attractions of Bahrain's tourism industry. It is closed for tourists every Friday and national holidays. Besides, on other days it is kept open for tourists from 9 am to 5 pm.
