Kakrail Mosque is located next to Ramna Park in the Kakrail area of Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. This mosque is the Markaz or main center of Tablighi Jamaat in Bangladesh.

Since 1952, this mosque has been designated as the Markaz of Tabligh Jamaat. The original name of this mosque was Malwali Masjid.

Establishment and construction of this mosque

There is disagreement as to when the Kakrail Mosque was first built and by whom. According to the elders of Kakrail Masjid, any respectable person from the Nawab family established the mosque. Many believe that this mosque was established 300 years ago. The mosque was built on the lines of other structures of the Nawabs. In the beginning this mosque was on a small scale. There was also a small pond in front. Again, it is said that in the forties, the gardeners of Ramana Park built a small mosque out of tin. Later, in the 1960s, eminent personalities of Tabligh Jamaat rebuilt the 3-storey mosque under the supervision of late engineer Haji Abdul Mukit.

Architectural style

There was also a mosque built by the Nawab family earlier on the site of the present mosque. Which does not exist now. The present mosque was designed by late engineer Haji Abdul Mukit. Adjacent to the roof of the mosque are triangular shaped carvings. The pillars of the mosque are square in shape. The western wall of the mosque is very wavy.

This mosque also has wide balconies on three sides. There are two pond-like houses for worshipers to perform ablution on the south and north sides. Hundreds of people can perform ablution together on the four sides of this pond. There is also a modern system of ablution outside the mosque. A little away from the mosque, there is a two-storied building for toilets and bathrooms on the north side.

Thousands of Tablighi Jamaat followers come to this mosque every day. They perform religious activities including chilla here. That is why a large number of people gather in this mosque.
