The Dhaka Times Desk Two human rights organizations have published a horrific and gruesome report of Indian forces' torture of ordinary people in Indian-controlled Jammu and Kashmir.
Organization 2 says that India is using various tactics to maintain its authority besides torturing the people there. The level of torture against the military as well as civilians is constantly increasing. The news media has given such news quoting the news agency The Express Tribune.
Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons and Jammu-Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society published a report on this on Monday. Such a horrible picture has emerged in that report.
The report said that the country's forces have been running a steam roller of torture on the common people of Kashmir for the past 30 years. The level and pattern of torture is constantly changing. Along with the punishment, gruesome incidents such as being dunked in hot water have been added. According to the report, not only the military forces, but also many freedom-seeking civilians are being subjected to this torture.
The report published on Monday called on the United Nations to come forward by stating that this torture is a violation of international law.
So far 432 missing Kashmiris have been researched by these 2 institutes. Out of which 40 people are said to have been killed by physical torture.
According to the information provided by human rights organizations, 190 prisoners have been severely tortured. 326 prisoners were brutally beaten with iron rods and leather belts. In addition, the report mentions that 24 Kashmiris were given electric shocks and another 169 prisoners were subjected to a steamroller of torture.
Even women, students, journalists and human rights activists were not spared from this torture. 301 prisoners were victims of this unspeakable torture.
However, as always, the Indian government has denied such allegations. A senior Indian security official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the government would respond to the matter after examining the documents related to the allegations.
