In ancient times, the gods and goddesses of Greece lived on Mount Olympus in Thessaly, Greece. And the king of the gods lived above all Zeus! His queen was Hera. Like Osiris and Isis, they were siblings!
Zeus' father Cronus (Saturn) was a son of Urason ('Heaven') and Gaea ('Earth'). As Crones had ousted his father and become king, he feared that the same would happen to him at the hands of his son. So he would have eaten them as soon as he was a child! Yet there is a legend that his one daughter Hera and three sons were saved by their mother hiding them. One of his brothers Poseidon is the king of the sea, the other brother Hades is the king of the underworld given by the dead like Osiris.
Hades' problem is that no one wants to be his wife. Who will go to live with the ghosts in that dark country under the ground? So one day Hades stole Proserpine, the daughter of Demeter, the goddess of grain, and Demeter ran madly in mourning for her daughter. With no more crops on earth, the Great Cataclysm begins. Finally, the gods convinced Hades that the girl could come to her mother for a few months a year. According to the Greeks it is still happening. When Proserpine is near the mother, the mother is happy, the earth is fertile. If Proserpine goes to Patalpuri, no crops will be produced in the world!
There were many other Greek gods. Pallas-Athene was the goddess of knowledge and art. And Apollo was the charioteer of the sun god Helios, his form was extraordinary. He had a famous temple in the city of Delphi. In the village of Olympia was the temple of Zeus. Apollo's twin sister Artemis was the moon goddess. He loved to hunt. He killed Poseidon's son Orion in a fit of rage. All these gods and goddesses of Greece were worshiped in Rome too, only their names were different. For example, in Rome, Zeus was called Jupiter, and Hera's name was Juno. Cronus was called Saturn, Poseidon Neptune and Hades Pluto. In Rome, Pallas, Athene was named Minerva, Demeter was named Ceres, and Artemis was named Diana.
They were worshiped from that time which is still happening. Much of the history of Greece and Rome is still unknown.
