The international media criticized India for suddenly canceling the special status of Kashmir. Last Monday, the Indian government abolished Article 370 of the Constitution.
According to media reports, last Monday, the Indian government announced the abolition of Article 370 of the Constitution, that is, the special status of Kashmir.
A New York Times editorial on the matter termed the decision to abrogate Article 370 as 'dangerous' and 'wrong'.
The New York Times report said, 'The newly elected BJP government is a Hindutva banner government. The BJP government does not want to keep the law that will give additional benefits to Kashmiri Muslims. This move is a historic wrong-correction in BJP's approach.'
An editorial in The Guardian newspaper said that with the scrapping of Article 370, the BJP's saffron politics once again showed its face in the public eye.
According to The Guardian, the Modi government's move on the Kashmir issue is 'not legal but a clarification of its own position.'
German media DW headlined, 'Indian government playing with fire'. Rodin Ebbighosen, DW's Asia division editor, wrote that the decision would "further anger the Muslim population of Kashmir and the political representatives of the valley."
Al Jazeera also did not support the devolution of Kashmir, the process of establishing it as a Union Territory. Their title refers to this day as the darkest day.
According to Al Jazeera, scrapping Article 370 and declaring it a Union Territory is nothing but a suffocating move.
Meanwhile, one of Pakistan's media outlets, 'The Dawn', said that this move was actually 'forced'. "Making Kashmir a Union Territory is an affront to all commitments - even to the United Nations".
It is to be noted that this is how the famous media of the world mentioned the decision of India as a wrong decision by referring to Kashmir issue i.e. making Kashmir a union territory. The media has also severely criticized the Indian government.
